The Wellness Group, a tea company from Singapore, revealed that they would be selling all their macarons at 40% off this weekend up until Monday. That’s from November 12 to November 16, 2015. So you still have today up until tomorrow to get yours.
Now, I am still waiting to try out Laduree, but I’ve had my fair share of yummy macarons here in my time, my favorite being Tous les Jours for being affordable, accessible and delicious at the same time. But this sale from TWG was too good to pass up, and it puts the macarons at 30 pesos apiece. I got a big box of 12 for 360bucks, saving 240 bucks in the process!
That 240 I saved is enough to eat a smaller burger at Burger Geek or 8 Cuts. So hell yeah!
What’s so special about The Wellness Group? Well TWG is actually a tea company, not a macaron specialist. But macarons go really well with tea, so what did TWG do? Well it made all its macarons tea-flavored! This makes them pretty special and unique, as far as macarons go. You will not taste any macarons that taste like TWG macarons.
They have very unique flavors, because the dough of the macarons is infused with various special tea flavors.
On the top row we have: 1837 Black Tea & Blackcurrant, Grand Wedding Tea, Passion Fruit and Coconut, Almond Tea and Blueberry Cream Cheese, Napoleon Tea and Caramel, and Camelot Tea and Praline.
On the second row we have: Macha, Morrocan Mint Tea, Sakura! Sakura! Tea and Cherry, Silvermoon Tea with Vanilla and Strawberry, Number 12 Tea with Cream Cheese and Coffee, and Vanilla Bourbon Tea with Kaya.
To be honest, I don’t remember what each one taste. There was so many and it was a taste explosion for each! The best seller is the Napoleon Tea with Caramel. It’s the dark brown one with brown caramel in the middle. It tastes a bit like dark chocolate with caramel, I am assuming the Napoleon Tea is a rich black tea, it is very aromatic and you can taste the tea flavor when you bite. It’s a much richer tea than Earl Gray, and tastes slightly of bergamot. It’s an outstanding macaron.
The Macha has that classic green tea taste. It’s not very sweet compared to say TLJ’s macha macaroon, but has a much richer macha taste. It’s less on the sugar and more on the macha powder, it seems. Another thing about these macarons is that they are very chewy. They do not break up crumbly, but instead have that crisp outer shell and inside is soft chewy macaron goodness. It’s a very great texture. These are a huge cut above TLJ’s macarons, to be honest.
The Number 12 macaron also stood out to me, so I remember it. It’s the white speckled one on the front row, second from the right. It’s delicious! There’s a cream cheese coffee mix in the middle that is heavenly, and just perky enough to get you going.
The Camelot Tea with Praline was also pretty exceptional. It’s top right in the picture. It tastes very chocolatey, but the camelot tea is what makes it great. This tea is like an Earl Gray, but it’s got a fruity tang to it that I don’t quite understand, but it tastes really good. With a name like CAMELOT surely you can’t go wrong.
When I am rich I will visit one of their cafes where you can have lunch. It’s pretty expensive and the servings are small, so I don’t consider it a must-do until I am filthy rich. But I can really appreciate the class and sophistication of this little stall in the middle of Alabang Town Center.
The sale is good up until tomorrow all across the Metro, so you have no excuse not to try them out. Go grab a box and let us know here how they were!
